Lesson plan title Learning about famous artists Activity overview:
Students will learn about famous artists and become familiar with their works of art. Each group will be given a check list of artist names. The groups will program Bee-bot to travel to artists’ galleries/studios and collect one famous art work (reproduction) from each artist on their list. After all the art work is collected, the group will deliver the examples to the museum. Art & Math concepts addressed:
Team work
Direction: right, left, backward, and forward
Space & movement
Pattern
History and Culture: art history (about the artists, artwork, media and technique)
Compare and contrast artwork by different artists.
Recognize artist’s style
Identifies artist’s work
Identifies subject matter
Extensions/Adaptations:
Students can create a drawing by combining elements from each work collected during their travels.
Older students can collect information about each artist: name of the artists, what year they were born, and what kind of work did they create (painting, sculpture, printmaking, illustrations, photography, drawings, etc…), what kinds of subjects or objects were in the works of art…
Students can write a story about traveling to the galleries/studios and include information about the artist!

museum/gallery boxes with examples artists’ works (at least 25 artists)
Paper
Crayons
Sticks with students’ names to organize groups

Check list of Artist for each group (try to put different artist in each group)
